Chinese Foreign Ministry held in Beijing Tuesday evening a new year party for officials from the United Nations and other international organizations in China.

Addressing on the occasion, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said the multilateral system with the UN at the core is tasked to achieve enduring peace and common prosperity.

China is a staunch supporter of the multilateral system and acts in strict compliance with the UN Charter, Li said.

China will continue to work with the UN and other international agencies to maintain peace and stability of the world and to promote common development, he added.

Khalid Molik, UN president coordinator in China, said China's role in the international affairs is becoming more and more important and its cooperation with the UN is vigorous.

China's concept of a "harmonious world" is similar to the norm and principles of UN Charter, and the UN hopes to seek a closer partnership with China, Molik said.

Some 200 people including Li Zhaoxing and Assistant Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai attended the party.
